Michael Batt
President and Founder
Michael started in the beauty industry when he enrolled in beauty school in 1975. Although his desire was woodworking he feared that vocation would not pay the bills. With a baby on the way along with other responsibilities, he threw his hat into hair styling. Michael always sought the creative path and after interviewing at Beauty School he got excited that this could be the right vocation. After a five year career working and apprenticing in some prestigious Philadelphia salons, he sought to supplement his income with a second baby on the way. This was a bit of a dilemma because he had grown attached to the beauty industry. How to do hair and make more money?
While scanning the want ads, he answered an ad for a beauty supply company in Philadelphia. Upon taking on this part time endeavor, it allowed Michael to keep his schedule doing full time hair and part time salon sales. The salon selling was a great fit. He knew how to speak to fellow stylists and had a real love for beauty products, especially the ones he considered to be the great ones.
After a year spent with the beauty supply company, he found an opportunity to go out on his own. The plan was to sell salon products that would be exclusive to his newly formed company. This gave him the advantage of exclusivity and his choice of prestigious products. The work was 24/7 and the objective was to never pass a new salon on his delivery route without stopping in and making an introduction. By 1982 his route grew to five Philadelphia counties. He then took on a store front followed quickly with a warehouse in the up-and-coming area of Philadelphia called Manayunk. Good move, it allowed Michael and Sherri to clear their home garage and open their business to the public as well as the trade.
The business continued to grow as Michael took on one employee at a time, divided the outside sales with a willing sales force, hired a driver to drive the Beans van opened a classroom for the trade and made plans for expansion.
In the mid 80’s it was time to analyze the business and see where the successes were and where the improvements were needed. Changes were made and the focus became more on the retail and less on the trade. This was a difficult but necessary cleansing. Business is about profitability, and this was where Beans success was found. In the early 90’s Michael took over the 2nd floor of the building in Manayunk and transformed it from apartments into a full service salon. Beans was one of the first businesses in the country to attempt the store/salon combination. The idea was the retail beauty store would lend itself to new salon customers and the stylist customers would become customers of the store.
Next came the opening of the Wayne store & salon, followed by Doylestown, and in 2008 the Center City Store & Salon. Four children, four stores, one grandson, a wife of 37 years, it has been a great and wonderful journey. Michael’s focus is Beans Beauty, with extreme dedication to the evolution of the Beans brand, it will continue to prosper. Michael and Beans are synonymous.

Sherri Batt

Sherri is Michael's wife and co-owner of Beans Beauty. Often looked upon as the calmer and milder side of the duo. Sherri practices compassion and poise in all her affairs. She was there from day one when together they packed orders to be placed in the trunk of their family car for salon delivery.
Sherri spends different days at different beans stores as she works along side of her co workers performing all the daily rituals of store business. Her oldest daughter Jenna works along side her throughout the week. The two younger kids live in NYC and Florida and always ask when we will open a beans in those areas. Maybe someday.
The kids and dog, Ollie, are Sherri's heart, oh Michael too, but beans with all it's needs and high expectations consumes her days and nights. Often called the Queen of Beans, know that Sherri is most definitely the jewel of the operation.

Jenna enjoys working in the different environments and servicing the clientele with a smile.

Nina Venezia (Wayne)
General Manager
Store Manager

Being the manager at beans beauty in Wayne for the last 13 years seems like a perfect fit to those that know her. Nina grew up in family of 6 girls and was like a 2nd mother and go-to-person for make up and hair. Now she does it at beans on a daily basis, and gets paid for it. Not a bad gig.
Over her years at beans she has found a way to incorporate her life's knowledge into her job. Known as "Miss Congeniality", helping members of the staff of stylist and store employees get through daily situations. Nina is the glue.
Learning and discovering beauty and wellness products can be challenging, exciting and fun. Nina thrives on this knowledge and retains it like a steel trap. She loves helping our customers diagnose beauty concerns by providing the best information and product knowledge that she's acquired over the years. Nothing pleases her more than seeing someone get results from the products or suggestions she has made. Her uncanny ability to diagnose could be dumb luck, but we believe it’s the great products we offer and Nina’s knowledge of those products.
I hope you'll stop in someday soon and "pick her brain" about your beauty concerns. She's a real find, someone you'll want to consult with forever. Though she can't make promises, you have my word that she'll try her best to fit your beauty needs.
